Meet the NFC Team

Gary L. Shapiro

Chairman and Founding Principal, has more than 30 years of experience in private equity investment and merchant banking. Mr. Shapiro has founded or acquired, managed and sold several privately held businesses and has been principal investor in more than 30 companies which have produced substantial realized gains for investors. He is a graduate of Rider University with a BS in Commerce and is the past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. A CPA by background, Mr. Shapiro serves as an active Leader of NFC and on several Boards of closely held companies.

Colleen Stacy Shapiro, Esq.

Principal, and President of Axiva Health Solutions, Inc. Mrs. Shapiro attended the University of Florida, college of Law, in Gainesville, Florida, obtaining her JD in 1993 and received her BA in English from the University of Florida in 1989. Mrs. Shapiro is a member of the Florida Bar Association and practiced corporate law as General Counsel for National Financial Companies and its affiliates in Florida from 1993-1999. Mrs. Shapiro has served on several boards and committees for both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations and served for nine years as a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of Rider University.

Willard B. Soper, II

Chief Strategist, Mr. Soper consults and guides small businesses on growth and operational strategies to help build shareholder value. During his career, Mr. Soper has served in a number of “C” suite positions. He has been president and COO of two commercial banks, a large mortgage company that was the 10th largest servicer of FHA loans in the country, and a private investment company. Additionally, He helped found and served as Chairman and CEO of Herald Custom Publishing a travel and tourism publisher owned by the Miami Herald.

Mr Soper spent part of his career in consulting and private equity and served as CEO of two portfolio companies of National Financial Companies – a specialty pharmacy and a commercial finance company. He has served on the boards of both national and state-chartered banks as well as the Florida Atlantic University Foundation where he was chair of the audit committee. Mr. Soper received a BA from Hobart College and an MBA from Babson College.

John O’Brien

Vice Chairman Emeritus, is a senior Strategist, Marketing, Sales and Operational expert having successfully advised corporations and privately owned business principals in a wide variety of industries. John is able to offer practical solutions to re-engineer companies and deliver the desired value-added results for clients.
Mr. O’Brien advises and provides operational oversight across the portfolio of companies and supports our M&A activities.

John’s corporate career has included a significant record of senior executive leadership and achievement with major corporations such as General Electric, Rockwell International, Whirlpool Corporation and as CEO of Walker Bay Boats. He is an Accredited Executive Associate of the Institute for Independent Business and has conducted business on five continents.

William E. McMillen

Principal, is a highly experienced financial professional. He has served successfully as a principal, board member, chief executive officer and chief financial officer in his more than 40-year career in business in a variety of industries, to include manufacturing, merchant banking, private equity investment, commercial distribution and service. His activities and involvement have run the gamut from the formation of start-up companies, acquisition of existing entities, improved management of newly acquired companies and divestitures. Mr. McMillen currently serves as the managing member of Wells Pharmacy Network, LLC portfolio business. Mr. McMillen manages various facility expansion projects for several portfolio businesses.

Jarrett Bostwick, Esq.

Principal, was a Partner in the law firm of Handler Thayer, LLP, which provides professional services to affluent families, family offices and privately held companies. In December 2005, Mr. Bostwick was named by Worth Magazine as “One of the Top 100 Attorneys in the United States” serving affluent families and family offices. Prior to joining Handler Thayer, LLP, Mr. Bostwick was a Partner in the Wealth Planning & Philanthropy Group of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, LLP in Chicago, Illinois. His experience includes tax litigation, valuation and accounting analysis, and serving as the Director of Wealth Planning Design for a nationwide financial planning company. Mr. Bostwick earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs Degree at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., his Juris Doctorate Degree from Gonzaga University School of law in Spokane, Washington, and his Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, Washington. He is a member of the American, Chicago and Illinois State Bar Associations, and was named the Vice Chair of the Exempt Organization Sections of the American Bar Association Real Property Probate and Trust Law Charitable Planning and Exemption Organizations Group. Mr. Bostwick is a nationally prominent speaker and author who was named in Marquis Who’s Who in America for 2008. For the past ten years he has served as the Co-Founder and General Counsel of Spearhead Capital, LLC and the Spearhead Family of Companies (Broker Dealer, RIA and Advisors). Spearhead sold $1.5Bn AUM to Rockefeller Capital Management in June 2022.

Todd Walters

Principal, has over 18 years of experience in the alternative investment management industry working in Asia, Europe and the United States. He has spent much of his career focused on sourcing alternative investments for institutional and sophisticated investors globally as well as providing capital services for investment managers. In 2008, Mr. Walters founded New Vernon Financial LLC. Prior to founding New Vernon Financial, Mr. Walters was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch within the Hedge Fund Development and Management Group servicing the alternative investment needs of both private and institutional clients. Before joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Walters was a Managing Director at Credit Suisse, where he held several roles globally, including the Head of US Hedge Fund Coverage for Prime Services based in New York, and the Head of Europe and Asia Hedge Fund Coverage for Prime Services based in London. In 2002, Mr. Walters established and co-managed Arden Asset Management’s London office, where his responsibilities were for international (Asia and Europe based) hedge fund manager research, manager selection and firm marketing. Prior to Arden, Mr. Walters was a Vice President with Morgan Stanley Prime Brokerage in Hong Kong and London where he focused on Sales & Marketing as well as Capital Introductions. Mr. Walters started his career with Wurfbain Management (1996-2000) in Hong Kong managing Asian Capital Holdings, a fund of hedge fund solely dedicated to Asian trading strategies. Mr. Walters holds a BBA in Finance, Investments and Banking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a founding member and serves as CEO of Spearhead Capital, LLC.

Rachel E. Shapiro, Esq.

Principal, Rachel E. Shapiro is an attorney with over 20 years of experience in transaction analysis and business structuring, litigation, litigation management and related fields. Her expertise includes employment matters, formation and analysis of business structures, mergers and acquisitions and operations management. Ms. Shapiro has served on the Board of Directors of various organizations. Ms. Shapiro received her juris doctorate from California Western School of law, magna cum laude, in 2000, and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Vermont in 1997. Ms. Shapiro is a member of the California State Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, US District Court for the Northern District of California, US District Court for the Southern District of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as other professional organizations.

Ryan McKim, Psy.D.

Principal, has over 20 years of business experience across a variety of sectors from healthcare to technology and financial services. Dr. McKim earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business from Duke University in 1997 and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 2007. His expertise are in Neuropsychology and Health Psychology and he has held clinical, research and academic appointments at multiple San Francisco hospitals while maintaining a successful private practice. Dr. McKim has also spent more than a decade working with numerous Bay Area healthcare technology companies in leadership, consulting, board and advisory roles helping them translate neuroscience and psychology into actionable technologies.

John Munger

Mr Munger is Vice President and has broad experience in several industries. For the past 12 years John has been active in the health and wellness space. He has extensive background in business intelligence, analytics, pricing, and marketing including the pharmaceutical industry. John prides himself on creating a team oriented environment and an insinsrure on quality, persistence and proven outcomes.

James Massey

Mr. Massey has over 20 years of diversified experience in the IT space. He holds several industry standard certifications along with an AA from Lakeshore Technical College. He continues to keep his skillset updated by staying current with new technologies while keeping up with constantly evolving cyber threats and their various attack vectors. As a CHPSE certified HIPAA Privacy and Security expert, it is his duty to gather requirements and provide elegant IT solutions for our business portfolio while securing the integrity of data at rest or in transit.

Devon Weber

Mr Weber is a data analyst with significant experience in automation, analytics, financial analysis and data management. Devon is also experienced in implementing analytical software programs. Devon graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Business Finance.
